Description

This four-page letter (the last page is missing), was written by a Civil War soldier from Washington, D.C., home to Fort Kent.

The soldiers describes the newly forming battalions, local news of the area and some comments on the unhealthy complexions of the young women.

He also discusses slaves, the flying of the flag over the capitol building, and the driving of mules.

The letter is attributed to Joseph Harney Thibodeau, godchild of Joseph Nadeau, a founder of Fort Kent.
